Experience 4: Experimental Design and Collaboration
Mrs. Prekrel's Classroom Students in Biomedical Interventions were charged with designing an experiment that would test the way some body systems worked. In order for the students to work on one project, but have the ability to work independently as well, the students worked with Discovery Education's Studio app. There they developed an online report that they can easily share with others that may be interested in their topic. Studio allows for collaboration between students and incorporates all kinds of media. Students can post text, pictures, videos and incorporate links and files as well. Example 1 |
Classroom Experience 6: Blogging
Mrs. Axel's classroom Mrs. Axel's creative writing class took a different approach this time with their writing. Each students used Weebly for Education to create their own webpage where they could publish their blogs. The students wrote out their initial essays and then after creating and then designing their personal website, the students posted their essays. Then, using the site, other students were able to read their work and provide them with feedback. Students also had the option of revising their work if they felt the critiques were helpful. Students set up the blog to control comments left by other readers. Each one had to be approved before it would display on their page. Example 1 Example 2 |
Classroom Experience 5: Unit Notes
Mrs. Barnes' Classroom Discovery Education's Studio app is a versatile tool. In Ms. Barnes' Chemistry class, we used the app to allow students to take their first glance at a new unit. The students were provided with a set of questions that they needed to answer, and in doing so, create a studio project that is representative of the information they would be learning about. Again, students were working collaboratively, which is the selling point for Studio. When students were finished, they shared their work with others in the classroom so that the whole class could learn off of the work of others. Here are two examples of the work students created.
